Create a Schedule & Set Goals
Setting realistic personal and team goals (try the SMART method) is a great way to stay motivated and get those miles in. Creating an exercise plan and implementing fun challenges with friends and family can make it easier to commit and achieve.
Get Moving Outside
Exercising outside is a great way to boost your mood and rack up those miles! Walking or running around your yard, neighborhood, or a local park are all great places to start. If you’re walking or running on roads, make sure to do so in the opposite direction of traffic so you can see oncoming cars.
Connect With Friends
Working together to achieve goals and exercising with friends is a great way to have fun and inspire some friendly competition. Don’t forget to check in so you can keep each other accountable.
Prioritize Self Care
Keep track of your emotional and mental health just as much as your physical one. It’s easy to neglect or bury the stress we are feeling, especially considering the many challenges of the past year. Make sure your mental health is as much of a priority as getting your miles in!
Stay Safe and Healthy
Vaccines have made indoor spaces like the gym less risky but it is still a good idea to stay updated on CDC guidelines and keep precautions such as wearing a mask, avoiding high touch surfaces, and washing your hands in mind. If you decide to skip the gym, try using YouTube, streamed workouts, or various fitness apps to keep up with exercising at home.
Share Your Progress
Feel free to share your activity during STEPtember with friends and fellow walkers by tagging our Facebook page (@STEPtemberWalk).
